Title III Grant
2005-2010


The Kuskokwim Campus has been awarded a  Five Year Title III grant by the U.S.  Department of Education which  provided over $400,000 dollars of support each year from 2005 to 2010.    
                                                   
The 2005 - 2010 Title III Grant seeks to strengthen our campus infrastructure
and enable us to improve services to students.  

Title III Grant focuses on four areas of current need:

Financial Aid:

Financial Aid Coordinator position  is funded by Title III to identify available support for our students and to solicit new scholarship and grant funding.  The Financial Aid Coordinator will work with current students and with the advisors as new students enroll to make sure that KuC is affordable for all students.   Objectives for the Financial Aid Coordinator include:

Assist Students in accessing financial aid information and services


Work with each student receiving financial aid to develop a funding plan
Coordinate closely with KuC Student Services, UAF Financial Aid and federal and regional funding agencies and sources
Publicize to campus and inform students of financial aid requirements, deadlines and rules
Track and enter student financial aid and enrollment information in UA Banner
Work with the Development Coordinator to find new sources of student funding

Campus Development:

 KuC has long needed up-to-date accurate information on our student body for compliance in grant reporting, assistance in advising, aligning our course offerings and institutional decisions concerning student and community needs. The new Development Coordinator will manage the database and develop contacts with area agencies and businesses for partnerships to address employee training needs and to solicit support for KuC programs and students.  A new alumni association guided by the Development Director will encourage KuC graduates and students to be "PR representatives" of the campus and role models for new students.  Objectives for the Development Coordinator include:
Develop and maintain a campus database for tracking students, funds, grants and institutional information.      

Develop parnerships and academic service agreements with regional agencies and employers.
Collect and organize relevant department data; train departments to access and manage their own sections of the database.
Develop a KuC Alumni association, plan alumni activities and oversee alumni contributions.

Wellness Coordinator

Student Wellness:  

Title III funds the new KuC position of Wellness Coordinator.  This position is directly  involved in student and small group counseling and class instruction, as well as faculty orientation. A major responsibility is to nurture a positive support community for our campus students. Objectives for the Student Wellness Coordinator include:
Evaluate issues presented by students and refer to appropriate resources if necessary.

Counsel dorm students who violate campus alcohol/drug policy and refer them to additional resources if needed.
Maintain confidentiality in accord with federal and state law and professional ethical standards.
Plan and carry out therapeutic counseling services with students by appointment.

Meet campus crisis needs for counseling, referral and point of contact.
Develop and teach an introductory Health and Wellness Course.
Plan and coordinate campus wellness activities.

Our library collection:

The book budget for the KuC Consortium Library has been underfunded for years so its outdated holdings need to be replaced.  Title III provides for a part-time Library Technician to purge old materials and $30,000 each year to buy new ones.  Objectives for the Library Technician include:

Assist KuC Librarian in purging and replenishing the library collection.

Enter cataloging data for new and purged materials.
Sort and shelve library materials.
Order new materials and prepare for circulation.
Assist public in finding and checking out library materials.

Title III Tech Support

 Title III Tech Support:

A grant revision has provided essential IT and computer support to campus Title III staff.  The Title III IT Technician,also provides assistance to faculty in their use of technology in instruction for both distance delivered classes and on campus courses.  KuC's previous Title III grant established student computer lab facilities.  The Title III IT Technician ensures that the lab equipment is upgraded and kept in working order and that the lab environment is conducive to class work and study.  This Title III position also provides help desk functions in support of KuC's instructional mission.


Revise and integrate the Title III web information with the KuC webpage
Support use of technology to facilitate Title III objectives and in support of instruction.
Help answer and troubleshoot IT department task queue for HelpDesk
Maintain and support student computer lab

Title III Renovation Grant

An additional Title III Renovation Grant provided over $350,000 in 2006 for the construction of a new physics laboratory and the renovation of the current science lab. Rooms 134 and 136 were renovated to provide the space for the new lab and also for needed storage space for the science program.

A 2007/2008 Title III Renovation Grant has funded major interior renovations for the campus.  The $750,000 project renovated all bathroom facilities and funded new carpet and fresh paint in all public areas of the building.  The grant has also provided for needed stair repairs and the installation of new exterior doors.

The $1.2 million 2009/2010 Title III Renovation Grant completed the carpentry and painting throughout the building. It will also install new ceilings & energy efficient lighting throughout the building. IT servers will be relocated and new IT wiring run to classrooms and offices. The grant will enhance the use of IT assisted instruction at KUC.
