Purpose
The Talent Search program identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary school of their choice. Talent Search also serves high school dropouts by encouraging them to re-enter the educational system and to complete their education.
Services provided by the program at KuC include:
* Academic, financial, career, or personal counseling. * Career exploration and aptitude assessment.
* Information on postsecondary education. * Exposure to college campuses.
* Information on student financial assistance. * Application Assistance.
* Special activities for sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. * Advising for the families of participants.
Eligibility
Students must be between the ages of 11 and 27. Students that have completed their high school education cannot apply for College Camp. In any given project, two-thirds of the participants must be students who are both low-income and potential first-generation college students. This allows for limited space for students who do not meet these requirements.

Background
Educational Talent Search is a TRIO grant. TRIO was created as the front line in the "War on Poverty" under President Lyndon B. Johson and further expanded by President John F. Kennedy. TRIO is a granting agency under the Department of Education. In Alaska there are 9 TRIO programs operating, with more to come in the near future.
